Way back in 1996, after many years working with my brother in his menswear shop, the opportunity came up to open a women’s boutique, giving Falkirk’s fashionable females the shop they always wanted, but Falkirk never had. People kept asking what we were going to call the shop and my brother Gregg, kept saying that it was his sister that was dealing with it all, it got to be known as Gregg’s Sisters shop, so I called it Sisters as the name was perfect, I wanted to appeal to the sisterhood!!!
The shop was number 10 Lint Riggs, which felt so right straight away, as my dad and his dad had retailed at no 11 Lint Riggs years before and were a bit of Falkirk history, as far as being the place for men to shop back in the 60’s 70’s and 80’s. My dads shops closed in the 80’s as none of the four children were interested in the shops and did not want a career in fashion retail…… how wrong we were!
I had always had to go to Glasgow or Edinburgh for something different to wear as Falkirk had no boutiques with the right on trend product at the right price when I wanted it so that was my mission, get cool product that no other shop in Falkirk has and position it in a nice boutique with friendly staff. We opened in 1996 and when No11 Lint Riggs came up for sale in 2001, my brother bought the property and moved his menswear business into there which was originally my dad’s shop.
In 2005, a gift shop across from us was closing down and I approached the owner and bought the property from her, allowing me to expand. Before long it became apparent that our customers preferred the newer shop, with its high ceilings and loads of light and space, it made for a happier retail environment. Our original shop was on two levels, so it made shopping awkward for mums with buggies and wheelchair users, so it made sense to move to No 11 in April 2008 when Gregg bought a bigger premise on Falkirk High Street and relocated the men’s wear business. We moved in next door to Sisters and called the new boutique “fergie…” a take on my surname! We now have two beautiful boutiques, housed in listed buildings in the centre of Falkirk and we really cater for all shapes and sizes. The staff takes huge pride in offering a great shopping experience to everyone who visits the stores. The website and online shop has come about due to customer demand and we hope you enjoy the sister’s experience as much as we have enjoyed creating it.
